New Zealand v England at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on October 18 is the first of a three-match T20 series.

Mitchell Santner returns to captain New Zealand, having missed the recent home T20 series against Australia through injury — a series New Zealand lost 2–0. Rachin Ravindra also returns after injury.

Zak Crawley has received his first call-up to England’s T20 squad, with Ben Duckett being rested ahead of the Ashes. Jofra Archer and Jamie Smith are also being rested for the same reason.

This series is part of both teams’ preparations for the T20 World Cup, starting in February.

For England, this is their penultimate T20 series before the tournament, with only three more T20 matches scheduled afterward. New Zealand, meanwhile, have 10 more matches.

This is the first time in six years that England have played T20 matches in New Zealand. The visitors have a good record here, having won seven and lost four of the previous encounters.
