  1. NordVPN: the best VPN overall

  3. Private Internet Access: the best US VPN
  4. ExpressVPN: the best VPN for beginners
  5. PrivadoVPN Free: the best free VPN

Is now the right time to buy a Black Friday VPN deal?

The deals for NordVPN, Surfshark and Proton are not likely to get any better over Black Friday 2025 or at any time in the near future. So, if you’re shopping for one of those, then, absolutely, do pull the trigger now.

We’re sure to see some other VPN deals popping up – and, doubtless, some tempting ones – but, given we rate all three of those VPNs above in the top 5, there’s little reason to hold out.

Probably the only reason to wait is if you’re looking for a lifetime deal or $1 deal from a less VPN provider. Our advice would be to go for quality instead. Ultimately, you get what you pay for.

And, if rock bottom price is the thing you want the most, then go for PrivadoVPN which is an exceedingly good product (particularly for streaming) and it only works out at $30 for 2 years of service. Pocket change, really.

How we choose Black Friday VPN deals

There are hundreds of VPNs on the market. We only include services on this list that we would genuinely recommend to family and friends.

We’ve been testing VPNs on TechRadar for over 11 years. The editorial team members use them every day on the phones and laptops, and the lab testing team puts them through their paces each month.

A Black Friday VPN deal is only included on this pages if it meets all of the following criteria:

  • It’s a VPN we have actually tested: We wouldn’t recommend something we’ve never had our hands on.
  • It’s a reliable service: you can trust it to keep you and your loved ones safe online.
  • It’s a price we would genuinely pay for it: if we don’t think the price being asked is worthy of the service, then it’s not going on our list. If we wouldn’t pay for it, why should you?

Do I need a VPN?

No, but there are many scenarios where a VPN can be useful both for online security and browsing convenience. If you’re at home or abroad, a VPN can serve as a useful tool to ensure you’re in the most secure situation possible.

Let’s say you connect to the public WiFi in your local cafe. You’re browsing the internet, doing some online banking, or buying something in the Black Friday sales. That’s all fine, except you’re not the only person seeing your information. Public WiFi can be compromised or set up by someone wanting to steal your personal information.

Without a VPN, your internet traffic is open and accessible, and can be acquired by hackers. With a VPN, your data is encrypted, so even if you’ve connected to that fake WiFi hotspot, the hacker will have no clue what’s in your data packets. It keeps you safe online while protecting your privacy and anonymity.

A VPN can also help with streaming your favorite TV series, shows, or sports matches when traveling abroad.

The likes of Netflix, BBC iPlayer, HBO, and similar offer different libraries according to what country you’re in. A VPN can help you access censored content and other geo-restricted material, that’s especially important if you’re visiting countries with high online censorship.

If you are a gamer, a VPN can mitigate the effects of DDoS attacks while preventing your ISP from deliberately slowing down traffic from gaming servers.

No matter your online tendencies, a VPN can be a useful addition to your toolbox but it’s not an absolute necessity.

We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Accessing a service from another country (subject to the terms and conditions of that service). 2. Protecting your online security and strengthening your online privacy when abroad. We do not support or condone the illegal or malicious use of VPN services. Consuming pirated content that is paid-for is neither endorsed nor approved by Future Publishing.
