President Trump to Australian ambassador: ‘I don’t like you either’

An Australian reporter asked US President Donald Trump whether previous comments by their ambassador in Washington have impacted his views of the administration of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

That ambassador, who was sitting across from Trump during a meeting with the Australian delegation, is former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

In 2020, Rudd wrote on social media that he believed Trump was the “most destructive” president in US history.

Those comments were deleted in November 2024 following Trump’s electoral victory, saying he did so “out of respect” for the office of the president.

Trump appeared to not recognise Rudd at the table – but once he identified himself, Trump quickly made his views known.

“I don’t like you and I probably never will,” he said.
