Busted singer Matt Willis new BBC series on addiction recovery

South Shore

Matt Willis: “I know what it’s like to relapse and I know what’s it’s like to be given a second chance.”

Musician Matt Willis will front a new series that explores addiction and recovery in south Wales.

The three-part documentary follows the Busted co-founder as he develops a new pilot scheme to help people in recovery rebuild their lives through work and help from the local community.

Willis, who has spoken openly about his own battles with addiction, said he wants to challenge stigma and spark fresh conversation about how recovery is supported in the UK.

“I know what it’s like going to rehab. I know what it’s like to relapse and I know what its like to be given a second chance,” he said.

Having battled his own addiction to drugs and alcohol for more than a decade, Willis said he wanted to use his experience to make a difference.

“I know what it’s like to say I am a drug addict, and the stigma that comes with that,” he said.

The series will see Willis travel across south Wales, where some communities face the highest rates of drug and alcohol-related deaths in the country.

He will meet experts, charities and people in recovery, exploring how meaningful employment and community support can help rebuild lives.
